This is a fun challenge the whole family will remember!
Escape rooms are kinda like a real-life adventure game where teamwork and communication are key. This game knows no age or physical limitations. Most important is that you work as a team. It is an exciting challenge bound to bring you closer.
You can choose from two missions, each being family-friendly (without violence or horror), and requiring no previous knowledge. In other words, all you need to play the game is teamwork, creativity & logic. This is surely the coolest thing to do in Dubrovnik with kids!
In case it gets too hard, you can always ask the game master to help with hints. Try this ultra-popular activity and see why escape room craze is taking over the world.

Fun and educational quest to discover the Secret Treasure of Dubrovnik!
2. Take the Cable Car to Mount Srdj
See the stunning views over the Pearl of the Adriatic
Take the cable car up the mount Srdj for a bird’s eye perspective of the Old Town. As soon as you reach the top you will be rewarded with the best panoramic views. If you dare to walk around you might encounter a donkey or two.
In case the 4 minute ride up is not exciting enough for your young explorers, take them to buggy safari. This Dubrovnik activity is best suited for older kids & adventurous teenagers (12+).
3. Hang out with animals in Honey Valley
Discover a little paradise in Dubrovnik for kids and adults
This little paradise with fresh air and beautiful nature far away from all the noise is located on Mount Srdj. Your kids can hang out with the animals on the farm & meet the horses, donkeys and sheep. You can sit in the shade of the cherry orchard and have a picnic while your kids roam around freely.
For the more active, there are a dozen ponies and horses eagerly awaiting for your children to take them for a horse riding session.
Ultimately, whatever you decide to do in this little kingdom, we are sure you will not regret coming! It is a very different family activity in Dubrovnik, where you can catch some peace.
4. Take a 1/2 day trip to Lokrum Island
Escape the city crowd and head to this green paradise
See the peacocks and bunnies running freely around. If you want to make new friends, take some food with you as they are not too shy to come 🙂
Go swimming in the dead sea, snorkeling and exploring the sea life, see the botanical garden or just hide in the shades of the forest and enjoy the serenity of this island. Indeed it is a true gem & our favorite thing to do in Dubrovnik with kids!

5. Take a stroll in Lapad Bay
Icecream + trampoline + sandy beach + park = happy kids 🙂
The only sandy beach in Dubrovnik is in Lapad Bay. Head here to make sand castles, play in the nearby park (with swings, slides, seesaws… ) or play picigin – most popular croatian summer game in water. Since no cars are allowed, you can take a stress-free stroll down the promenade, have an ice-cream or pancakes and let your kids roam around freely.
If you get hungry or thirsty, there are plenty objects offering refreshments and food. This place is locals favorite for different family activities.
Local tip: Take the charming path by the water all the way from Lapad Bay to Babin kuk. There is a park ideal for playing games with a ball, riding bicycles or playing table tennis and mini golf.
6. Explore the Old Town
City Walls, Aquarium, Maritime Museum
The entire Old Town is kid-friendly as no cars are allowed on the streets so that you can take a stress-free stroll with your little ones.
You can take the kids to explore the forts and bastions of the city walls. Surely they will enjoy the beautiful views watching the ships pass by.
Once within the walls, visit the Aquarium, showing diverse Adriatic flora and fauna. See lobsters, octopus, seahorses, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, shells, crabs… Although modest, its cool location in the stone vaults of St. John’s Fortress makes it a nice escape from the crowds and heat of the city.
While there, you can also visit the Maritime Museum, exhibiting old maps, sailing equipment, ship models from different times…

7. Challenge yourself at Cadmos Village
Excitement for the whole family
Adventure park in Konavle, Cadmos Village, is fun for the whole family. Stay in the first treehouse in Croatia and enjoy fresh air on a 7m high open terrace and beautiful views of Konavle valley. Try homemade specialties and local wines in the family restaurant.
Adrenaline lovers will certainly enjoy park features and activities: 4 zip lines, giant swing, slingshot, fields for archery and paintball, sack jumping, pulling the rope, biking… This family activity is near Dubrovnik, around 30 minutes driving north.
8. Take a day trip to Lopud island
one of Croatia's best beaches
Take a 1 hour boat ride from Gruz port to Lopud island (check the daily departures schedule) . No cars are allowed on the island, so you can truly relax & enjoy the nature. Take a stroll to the other side of the island (or hire a golf cart) in order to discover the best sandy beach in the whole county – Sunj beach.
Kids will love this beautiful sandy beach, because it is very shallow so they will have plenty of space to run and splash around. Take snorkelling gear, rent a kayak or pedal boats, swim and dive or just hide in the shade of parasols or the local bar, while your kids roam around joyously.
This family friendly beach is the locals favorite place to escape Dubrovnik in the summer.
9. Enjoy Valamar Summer Nights
Fun entertainment for the youngest!
If you enjoy open air cinema, go see a movie under the stars on Babin Kuk. Free screenings of animated and family films are organized all summer on Thursdays and Sundays at 21 pm in Park Maslinata.
Valamar also organizes different activities for kids like the Street Art Festival (two days of fun for children with face painting, LED lights show, circus workshops and cabaret).
Definitely be sure to check the details of the festival itinerary at Valamar Summer Nights.
Dubrovnik travel tips
Advice from locals for visiting Dubrovnik with kids
The locals do whatever they can to stay away from the old town because of the notorious crowds and heat that comes with the summer months. Therefore, most of the locations we recommend to visit in Dubrovnik with kids are located outside of the Old Town.
Our most important local tips for visiting Dubrovnik in the summer are:
Plan to go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.
Avoid being in the sun too long, especially between 11 am – 3 pm when it’s the hottest so you don’t get burnt or sun sick (The Old Town stone can make that heat slightly more intense)
Avoid the huge crowds in old town on days there are a lot of cruise ships in port. Check the cruise ship schedule & plan activities outside of the old town for the time the ships are in port.
Take plenty of water with you – it is easy to get dehydrated in the sun. Bonus tip: take an empty bottle and fill it up at any fountain – water is perfectly clean & oh so refreshing!
